A Meta Business Account
WhatsApp is a Meta product. To run a WhatsApp AI agent, you need a Meta Business Manager account and a Meta Developer account, with a WhatsApp Business App connected to your business number. We handle this setup if you do not have it already.
A Dedicated Business Number
We strongly recommend using a dedicated business number rather than your personal WhatsApp number. Connecting your personal number to the Meta Business API risks losing your personal chat history and keeps business and personal properly separated.
Our provider of choice is Twilio, which offers reliable business numbers at reasonable rates.
An AI Model API
Your agent runs on a large language model. You will need an API account with a provider like Claude (Anthropic), ChatGPT (OpenAI), or Gemini (Google).
From experience, we recommend Claude, it is consistently the most capable model for customer-facing work, particularly on nuance, tone, and handling ambiguous questions. We will advise on the best fit during discovery.
